Rope Revue: Voxbody's 'The Lyon, The LOOM & The Weaver Rope and Roving Experience'

Rope Revue is our post rope event processing blog series focusing on articles about rope performances that we've attended. Our insight into the world of Shibari gives us a special lens into the performing art and this is the interpretation of our experiences, we hope you enjoy our view into this fascinating world and please do feel free to share with us what you think of our review through our connect form especially if you attended the event!

Last night's rope performance by LOOM and Olivia Lyon was phenomenal and a cerebral joy to witness! If you missed out, it had every little fetish we enjoyed from the dynamic bamboo rope suspension sequence to hashira transitions, hot wax and plenty of sexy sensual domination with a mystical ceremonial vibe we loved throughout the hour and a half long performance!

Voxbody's Roving Art Experience

What's behind the mystical Red veil?

After putting away our things and removing our shoes to enter the main area of Voxbody we waved hi to Blue and checked in at the table, behind the check in table we saw this beautiful piece [first image] by fiber artist Megan Shimek that looked almost like a veil that would cover the entryway of some sacred place.

Red Wool Roving

Pom Pom Alley

Beautiful piece by Megan Shimek

It was our first time experiencing a Wool Roving art installation and seeing our second rope home Voxbody decorated in all of the beautiful pieces just made us feel like we were in some cloudy fantasy dream land in the middle of heaven and earth.

Red was definitely the main theme of the night with some white mixed in, black was also present in the rope performance, all of these colors brought out feelings of passion, love, creation, and the divine.

The Performances

The crowd had settled in and the music changed to a slow, ceremonial tone and sound that felt like the beginning of a sacred ritual was about to begin, Olivia Lyon stepped through the curtains wearing a flowy, see through black robe lingerie laced piece. She sauntered towards the stage towards a pile of red roving pom poms, pausing briefly to look up and expose her pitch black eyes as she opened and stared into our souls. After a piercing look at the witnesses to the ritual that was about to begin, she gathered the pom poms on the ground in front of her and began to move around the crowd distributing the objects. Once she returned to the stage, Olivia knelt down in seiza to perform a ritual where she lit a set of black candles and performed some divination setting the stage for LOOM's appearance.

LOOM's rope performance on this night exudes Sensual Domination, with equal parts bamboo stunts and a bamboo to vox hashira transition I've been dreaming of trying out one day and waiting for someone to perform in front of me (I'm not even mad that someone else did a transition I had in my mind for awhile). LOOM's rope work is just so beautiful and Olivia Lyon was amazing and definitely a strong endurer of pain and true masochist for how long she hung in full suspension, the transitions, some impact play with the rope flogging and the sexy hot black wax scene which was our favorite most of all!

Post-Processing

LOOM and Olivia Lyon's performance felt provocative, mysterious and sensual from the beginning to it's primal, intense and HOT peak, into it's soft and sexy ending. I was intrigued, curious, enthralled, excited and entranced at the beauty and skill that was performed by both performers on the stage. It was like watching two divine beings work their rope tying and bottoming skills with such ease and grace that it left the crowd impressed days beyond the performance, in fact, I've heard "impressed" at least twice that night uttered in the crowd or even "amazing" which I equally agree with after witnessing LOOM and Olivia Lyon's performance at Voxbody.

Thank you so much LOOM and Olivia Lyon for coming out to Oakland to teach and perform for us!

This is my interpretation of 'The Lyon, The LOOM, and The Weaver rope and roving show, art is subjective so you or others may have seen this performance much more differently than I did, if you saw the show I would love to hear what you thought about it by contacting us through our connect page!
